Future of Reality
an artist collective interested in past, present and future forms of reality

Artist: Margaret Dolinsky
Title: Strait Dope
Year: 1997
Project Description: Strait Dope, an interactive stream-of-consciousness surreal virtual environment, captures visitors' attention through its colorful, almost psychedelic, design. presenting unfamiliar elements in settings which operate under an alternate logic. Surprising and even frightening situations lead visitors on their own path of discovery to confront a subversive world of colors, characters, voices and noises. Strait Dope appeared on the cover of the premier issue of VRML Developerís Journal (1997) with an extensive article that included full-color images. New media writer Carol Gigliotti said that the imagery was rich and colorful with characters that had not appeared before in computer graphics. A gaming company actually visited me in Chicago and asked if I would be interested in working on a video game, but I declined as I was determined to continue developing work as a serious artist (interestingly, similar heads later appeared in a certain video game for slicing and dicing, and gushing copious amounts of blood).
